What is an initial home visit?

Why we do home visits?

Home visits are important for us to keep in touch with our foster carers.

Once you have enquired with us, your initial home visit is a chance for you to meet one of our Social Workers and ask them any questions you have - and they will ask you a few questions too. You can have up to 8 visits when going through the assessment process.

This sounds overwhelming, but these visits are for us to get to know you. We need to ensure that you are suitable to become a foster carer and that your home is a safe and comfortable place for a child to stay. It is also a time for you to ask the assessing social worker any questions that might come up along the way.

Once you are approved as a foster carer you will have monthly visits from your Supervising Social Worker to talk about how things are going; what's going well, and any challenges you may be experiencing.
